Says voters need to know candidates' views on the economy
BRIDGEPORT, CT - Yesterday, the Himes campaign revealed that Chris Shays refused an offer to debate on Bloomberg TV. In his response, Shays failed to address whether or not he would debate Jim Himes on Bloomberg TV. The Himes campaign issued the following statement in response:
"It's clear that Chris Shays is really just trying to run out the clock on this election," said Dana Houle, Jim Himes' campaign manager.
"Our economy is in crisis and voters need to hear from the candidates on the issues. We want to start a discussion now, and Bloomberg TV has offered to host a debate next week. Jim doesn't need weeks of tutoring to discuss the state of our economy; he is ready now. Is Chris Shays?"
Background:
- Shays has turned down an offer to debate Jim Himes on Bloomberg TV's "Money & Politics" show, a show Shays has appeared on alone many times.
- Bloomberg offered to tape Shays in Washington, DC or Connecticut, meaning Shays would not need to alter his travel plans.
- Bloomberg offered more than ten days on which the debate could take place.
