Only 36% of voters think Shays deserves reelection
BRIDGEPORT, CT - Today, the Himes campaign released an internal poll showing the race between Chris Shays and Jim Himes is now tied. The poll, which surveyed 500 voters over Wednesday and Thursday, showed that only 36% of voters believe that Chris Shays deserves reelection. The poll also showed significant growth for Himes in name recognition, favorability ratings, and support from independents. The Himes campaign issued the following statement:
"Jim Himes now has the momentum in this race. This poll is clear confirmation that voters believe that Jim Himes is the candidate who can bring change to Washington," said Dana Houle, Jim Himes' campaign manager. "Voters recognize that Jim offers solutions to problems like the economic meltdown on Wall Street, the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, our healthcare and energy crises, and restoring opportunity for the middle class.
"The poll shows that voters recognize that Chris Shays has been changed by Washington. Chris Shays' declining support is a direct result of his support for George Bush's failed policies on the economy and the War in Iraq."
